Self-disclosure about dementia on social media: toward evidence-informed guidance

What is this Study about?

In this study we aim to explore the motivations and impacts of disclosure a personal diagnosis of dementia or being a care partner on social media. The overall goal of the study is to develop an evidence-based resource to promote benefits of social media for the dementia community while minimizing its harms.

What Will Happen in This Study?

Interested participants will be asked to join an initial phone call to discuss the study details and review the consent. After this is complete, an interview will be scheduled at a time that works best for the participant. Participants will be asked to participate in a 30-minute interview held over Zoom. The interview will include questions around the participant's social media use, feelings of support, use of additional resources, and thoughts on online and in-person relationships.

Who is Eligible to Participate in this Study?

-Identify as an individual living with dementia

-Identify as a care partner

-Are over the age of 19

-Have posted on social media about living with dementia or being a care partner

-Speaks English
