Regina's Story

Education is the first link to learning to live well with dementia.

Regina Dooling was an inspiration to all after a diagnosis of Young Onset Dementia in 2016. She created her own IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's team "Regina's Roses" to raise awareness. She wanted others to come forward and change the stigma associated with dementia and get support through the Alzheimer Society First Link Program.

Her sisters, Genevieve and Rita, continue her legacy with "Regina's Roses" and shared their personal journey with dementia.

"Thank you to the Alzheimer's Society of Newfoundland and Labrador for profiling Regina's Story. Despite losing our sister, Regina, to Young Onset Dementia at the age of 57 years old, we feel it's important to share her story not only to keep her memory alive, but to help support those families that are currently on a dementia journey. By educating people and putting faces of families and stories to the journey, we can help reduce the stigma associated with a dementia diagnosis" - Genevieve Dooling and Rita Oliver.

Through the First Link Program, we support families on the dementia journey by equipping them with knowledge, coping strategies, and ways to navigate their dementia pathway.

Our Learning Series is just one of the services we offer, an educational series for care partners which helps families to live well with dementia.

“Every person living with dementia has a unique story and path, but no one should have to go it alone. I’m so proud of the Dooling family for sharing their story, courageously raising awareness and encouraging others on this journey to access education and support” – Dr. Susan Mercer, Learning Series Presenter.
