We are excited to introduce this year’s 2021 IG Wealth Walk for Alzheimer’s in which we are encouraging you to raise funds by committing to choosing a destination and then reaching it by being active.

Alzheimer's and other dementias affects over 9,000 people in Sarnia-Lambton. 3,000 of that number are people who have been diagnosed with dementia and the remaining 6,000 are care-partners and family members. For every one person diagnosed with dementia, 2 others are affected. For the month of May commit to walking 9,000 steps per day or walk 9,000 steps on Sunday, May 30th. Another option is to choose a destination and walk that number of steps as a team for the month of May!

We are encouraging our participants to walk, dance, run, rollerblade or do a yoga class all month long in May! Be sure to tag the Alzheimer Society of Sarnia-Lambton on Facebook or Instagram if you post any walk-related videos or images on your social media accounts. Spring getaway put on hold due to COVID? Weekend SPA getaway cancelled? This past year has been challenging for all of us. We have all had to put much needed vacations on hold and stay home in an effort to keep our loved ones and communities safe. Don’t despair! We are excited to introduce this year’s 2021 IG Wealth Walk for Alzheimer’s in which we are encouraging you to raise funds by committing to choosing a destination and then reaching it by being active. So where do you want to go? An overnight getaway to Niagara Falls? Well that’s 300 Km or 375,000 steps.

During the month of May we encourage you to get out and be active. If you did 12,500 steps per day for the month of May that would be the distance from Sarnia to Niagara Falls. Or is the Bruce Trail calling you? That’s 234 KM or 292,500 steps reachable by doing 9750 steps per day. Want to go further? Maybe Stanley Park in British Columbia? That’s 4000 km or 5,000,000 steps and its achievable by assembling a team of 10 people and having them each commit to doing 16,600 steps per day for the month of May.

How to Calculate # of Steps to Your destination: Based on the average stride length being .8 metres - 10,000 steps will equal 8 kilometres (5 miles). One kilometre equals 1250 steps.

How to Participate: Participation is Easy! Set Your Destination, Not a walker or a bike rider? That’s okay. Any form of activity counts… everything from aerobics, to golfing, to jump rope, to Zumba.

Let’s all answer the call to raise funds to help those living with dementia in our community! You are only limited by your imagination. Let’s see how far we can go together?
