Walk raises more than $80,000
On Saturday, May 28, 2022, the Alzheimer’s Society of Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland, and Haliburton hosted their annual IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s. The region’s largest fundraiser in support of the more than 10,000 people in the community living with dementia, their families, friends, and caregivers.
Supporters of the Alzheimer Society had the choice of completing their own personal Walks, or attending the in-person event at Trent University. Funds raised go toward life-changing programs and services that help people affected by dementia in the local community, including counselling, day programs, respite for caregivers and assistance for people who are newly diagnosed.
“This year we had a such a great showing of passionate community members who want to help those living with dementia and their care partners. We want to thank IG Wealth Management for their continued partnership in raising funds for our programs and services. Together, we’re able to make a big impact in our local community,” said Andrea Cant, Executive Director of the Alzheimer Society of Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland, and Haliburton.
The weather was ideal for the more than 100 supporters that attended the in-person event at Trent University. People living with dementia, care partners, friends, and family all did their steps around Trent’s athletic track. The local business community was also in full force at the event, with support from IG Wealth Management, Home Instead, James Campbell Inc. McDonalds, AON Inc., Bell Media, Corus, TCAS, Comfort Keepers, Regency of Lakefield, and Robert Nagel.
“IG is extremely proud to support the Alzheimer Society and their mission to alleviate the impact of Alzheimer’s, while promoting the search for causes, treatments and a cure,” said Damon Murchison, President and CEO, IG Wealth Management. “We know the physical, emotional and financial burden that dementia has on Canadians. And that’s why our employees and advisors are committed to helping support and empower the communities in which we live and work, through the walk, but also seminars and webinars throughout the year.”
