Every fall, we look forward to hosting our annual provincial conference here at the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.

The conference celebrates the dementia care community and brings together a diverse group of professionals from long-term care, home care, and acute care, along with researchers, educators and students. This full-day event fosters meaningful opportunities for learning, collaboration and networking across the sector. Through engaging presentations and exhibitors, attendees involved in dementia care can learn more about the latest research and best practices.

This year’s conference, Fostering Curiosity in Care, will take place on Oct. 28 at the Cedar Event Centre in Halifax.

“No matter your role or years of experience in dementia care, we believe fostering curiosity and exploring new ideas keeps us open-minded, fresh and evolving,” said Marco Redden, conference chair at the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.

Together at this event we will broaden our understanding of behavioural changes in dementia, explore innovative strategies for creating dementia friendly rural communities, witness the transformative power of music therapy, and more.

One of our presenters is Courtney Richardson, behaviour health manager at Shannex Harbourstone in Sydney.

“I am excited to present at the conference alongside three other panelists working within the sector,” said Richardson. “We will share a case study that looks at the process of navigating a situation involving someone living at home who experiences a behavioural incident leading to hospitalization, and we will conclude by discussing how they can be supported into long-term care.”

We are also excited to learn from Dr. Agnes Chinelo, this year’s keynote speaker, who is an author and advocate in dementia care. She will share with us practical and culturally informed insights drawn from her distinctive perspective as both a physician and a family caregiver.

Our 2025 conference will mark our fourth annual Promising Practices Showcase, presented by Shannex, where we highlight some of the amazing work happening in dementia care across the province.

For those unable to join us in Halifax, we have a livestream option available to keep you connected with these latest learnings. Get your tickets today at www.alzheimer.ca/ns/conference.
