Research Award Program

The Research Award Program, supported by the Champigny-Robillard Fund is an initiative of the Federation of Quebec Alzheimer Societies (FQAS). This program is open to master’s-level students.

Supported by the Champigny-Robillard Fund, the purpose of the award program is to support students enrolled in universities in Quebec, pursuing research projects aimed at maintaining or improving the quality of life of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease or other neurocognitive disorders, and their families in Quebec.  

Research aimed at maintaining and improving quality of life (QoL) can take place in the fields of health or social sciences. It includes aspects related to:

  • Daily life and social environment, including maintaining autonomy, self-determination, comfort, safety, rehabilitation, interpersonal relationships, social participation, inclusion, housing, built and community environments, etc.
  • Healthcare and both physical and mental health, including prevention, diagnosis of neurocognitive disorders, treatment of comorbidities, etc.
  • Policies, systems, and society, including health evaluation research, social services, care trajectories, organization of services, social inequalities, equity, etc.

Deadline to submit: November 3, 2026 at 5 p.m.

Amount: $30,000 grant over 12 months  

*The research award cannot be renewed and non-transferable  

*Concurrent funding will not be permitted 

Eligibility 

Canadian citizens and permanent residents admitted or enrolled for less than one year in a master’s program from a recognized university in Quebec.  

OR 

International students who have completed at least two consecutive full-time semesters in Quebec (bachelor’s or master’s) AND who are currently admitted or enrolled in a master’s program in the province.   

Admissible Research Projets

  • The project’s primary objective must be in lines with FCR’s vision, namely ‘To facilitate research projects developed in Québec AND aimed at improving the quality of life of people living with Alzheimer’s disease or other neurocognitive disorders and their families, in Québec.
  • Research projects must be realized either with participants residing in the province of Quebec, or using databases from Quebec, or that include data collected from participants residing in Quebec.

Selection criteria 

  • Excellence of the candidate’s academic record (45 points)  
  • Relevance and feasibility of the proposed project (50 points)  
  • Overall presentation of the application (5 points)  

Submitting an application 

Applications must be submitted through our application webpage. Applications are preferably submitted in French. If the application is written in English, the project presentation in lay-language must be submitted in French. The French application form includes 20% additional space to account for linguistic differences.

Review process 

An initial assessment will be carried out by the Federation of Quebec Alzheimer Societies (FQAS), which will verify the file’s integrity and evaluate the candidate’s academic transcripts.  

Applications are then examined through a peer review process, namely, by a group of experts representing the different Quebec universities and relevant research areas. 

Applications will receive a score based on a candidate’s scientific merit, the innovative nature of the project, its feasibility, and relevance to the aforementioned award’s objectives.  

The awarded project will be selected from the three highest scoring applications, by a committee of Alzheimer Societies Executive Directors.  

* Recipients must agree to present their research results in French or to find someone qualified to do so on their behalf.
