Donor Spotlight: Alberta Blue Cross

The Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories (AS AB/NT) is pleased to offer the Virtual Minds in Motion® program to our clients with the support of Alberta Blue Cross. The weekly program promotes healthy living and consists of 45 - 60 minutes of low impact exercise led by a certified fitness instructor, followed by an hour of facilitated social activities where participants chat, share stories, laugh, and play games. The goal is to create an experience that supports the well-being of the person with dementia and provide support for care partners. Participants are kept informed about other programs and services offered by the Society or community organizations.
“We are grateful to Alberta Blue Cross for their support. Having online options allows the Society to continue providing services regardless of the pandemic or public health stay at home orders which is critical. Our participants can still connect with others, find support supported and remain active.”
– Jessica Sparks, Minds in Motion Program Lead, AS AB/NT

“As the son of a parent with Alzheimer’s disease, I know firsthand how Alzheimer’s has a huge impact not only on those living with dementia but on their caregivers and entire families. Particularly as we deal with the isolation that has accompanied the pandemic, this virtual program provides a valuable opportunity for our loved ones with Alzheimer’s to stay active and well.”
