Donor Spotlight: Naomi M.
When her mother was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's, Naomi knew she had to take action.
Naomi has been a caregiver and staunch advocate for her mum, who was diagnosed with dementia in 2007 at the age of 54. As part of her advocacy work, Naomi has created a forum for young caregivers to discuss, share, and get support from their peers. She continues to be an advocate for people living with dementia and their caregivers in her community.
From Naomi:
“I felt compelled to become a monthly donor because I am keenly aware that our hope of finding a treatment or cure for this disease is through research. As a child with a parent diagnosed with young-onset dementia, I have a 50/50 likelihood of developing the disease, so I have a vested interest in what scientists can discover.
“I am also a dedicated advocate, volunteer and public speaker for people living with dementia and their caregivers because I want to shine a light on the realities of this disease to make systemic change. I may not be able to improve the quality of life for my loved one immediately, but I believe persistence pays off, and I am determined to improve the quality of life for all those who are touched by this disease.”
