Palliative Care/End-of-Life Care Grant
The Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories was recently awarded a Palliative Care/End-of-Life Care Grant by the Government of Alberta
The Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories (AS AB/NT) received a Palliative End-of-Life Care Grant from the Government of Alberta to help create resources and educational modules for individuals who are supporting individuals in palliative and end-of-life care.
Research indicates that there is a significant gap in providing information and education to family members and care partners. They lack sufficient information about what will be required at end of life and how to cope and manage needs for themselves and the person living with dementia. This greatly impacts their experience and can create significant distress.
The intention of the project is to develop enhanced learning opportunities and interventions in an effort to reduce family care partner uncertainty in decision-making concerning end-of-life care, reduce family care partner psychological distress, and yield higher family care partner satisfaction with end-of-life nursing home care.
The project will be completed by March 2024.
A total of 25 grants were awarded by the Government of Alberta as part of an $11M investment in palliative care initiatives.
