Roger Marple Volunteer Award 2026
The Roger Marple Volunteer Award is awarded annually to a volunteer who works to support people living with dementia, has taken on the battle against stigma, and/or promotes dementia supportive communities.
The recipient of this year’s award has greatly supported enhancing quality of life for people living with dementia in her community and promoting dementia supportive initiatives. For over 15 years, she has stepped up to bring awareness regarding the experience of people living with dementia and has in countless ways worked to enhance the support that people living with dementia receive through their community and the Alzheimer Society.
We are please to award this year’s Roger Marple Volunteer Award to Chris Nelson. Chris has been volunteering with the Alzheimer Society for over 15 years, being a speaker at events and client programs, being in video education series, and so much more. Simply searching “Chris Nelson and dementia” will pull up multiple videos, newspaper articles, and more showing Chris’ dedication to bringing awareness, educating on dementia-supportive practices, and reducing stigma regarding dementia. Like the award’s namesake, Roger, Chris has utilized her diagnosis of dementia to make a positive impact and help others get a glimpse of the experience of dementia to work towards a more understanding and supportive community.
Congratulations and thank you Chris for all you have done to reduce stigma, promote dementia supportive communities, and enhance quality of life for people living with dementia.
