The First Link® Dementia Helpline is for anyone affected by dementia, whether professionally or personally. Get the support you need, when you need it. Calling the Helpline has all the benefits of a referral from your health-care provider.

Note: The Alzheimer Society of B.C. will be closed between December 24 starting at 1 p.m. PT through January 1, 2025 to mark the holiday season. The office will reopen on Thursday, January 2, 2025.

We understand the holiday season can be a difficult time for many families. Should you have any questions about dementia or memory loss, our First Link® Dementia Helpline staff is ready to assist:

First Link® Dementia Helpline (English): 1-800-936-6033
Holiday hours:

  • December 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • December 30 and 31, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Regular hours (Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.) will resume on January 2, 2025.

First Link® Dementia Helpline (Cantonese and Mandarin): 1-833-674-5007
Holiday hours: 

  • Closed starting on December 23, then regular hours (Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) will resume on January 2, 2025.

Holiday hours: 

  • Closed starting at 5 p.m. (Yukon time) on December 24, then regular hours (Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Yukon time) will resume on January 2, 2025.

Through our First Link® Dementia Helpline, some of the topics you can learn about include:

  • Getting the diagnosis.
  • Progression of the disease, including its effect on communication and behaviour.
  • Personal planning.
  • Maintaining independence.
  • Providing care and support.
  • Resources available in your community, including support groups and upcoming education workshops.
