NVW2021: Volunteering on our Board of Directors, “You can make a real difference”

Board chair

This National Volunteer Week, we are showcasing some of the integral roles volunteers play in our organization. From April 18 – 24, 2021, follow @AlzheimerBC on social media to learn more about these roles and help us recognize our incredible volunteers.

The Board of Directors are volunteers who steer the Alzheimer Society of B.C. toward a sustainable future through sound legal governance, financial management and strategic direction. Led by the Chair, the Board provides leadership and oversight to the Society. Board members are key spokespeople, fundraisers and ambassadors for the Society within the community. Currently the Board of Directors is identifying a new CEO and reviewing the 2021-22 strategic plan, ready to chart the course for the next chapter in the Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s growth.

Robert Piasentin, whose tenure as Board Chair is set to end in September, speaks highly of his experiences on the Board, particularly the opportunity to work collaboratively to further the Society’s vision and mission.

“Working together to address issues that are near and dear to my heart – supporting families on the dementia journey – this is the primary reason I enjoy being on the Board,” Robert says. “Volunteering as a Board member puts you in a position to ensure families receive meaningful programs and services. Working closely with Society staff, you can make a real difference.”
