Alzheimer Society of B.C. advocacy update
The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is committed to ensuring that the information we hear from people affected by dementia is reflected in all of our work, including our advocacy efforts.
There are two kinds of advocacy we focus on at the Alzheimer Society of B.C.: self-advocacy and systemic advocacy. Self-advocacy refers to what we do to improve a situation for ourselves, a family member or another person. Systemic advocacy focuses on improving the entire system for the benefit of everyone and can be done at the federal, provincial or municipal level.
The Alzheimer Society of B.C. has had an active year of advocating for people affected by dementia and working to ensure their voices are included in developing policies and practices that affect them. We hosted community dialogues in Vernon and Prince George, engaged with elected officials, including several Members of the Legislative Assembly and Members of Parliament across the province and participated in policy submissions aimed at improving support for people affected by dementia.
We are pleased to begin sharing regular updates on our advocacy activities. All the details on our recent advocacy work can be found here.
