[Webinar] Living well with dementia: The power of staying active
Dementia may cause changes to your abilities, but it doesn’t mark the end of an active and fulfilling life. Physical activity can improve well-being, alleviate stress and promote overall health. We have invited David Nickel, Penny Stanley and Brian Stanley to join our upcoming webinar - a panel of people with lived experience of dementia - to share their personal stories of finding strength and resilience through physical activity and sport. Join us to learn tips and strategies to help you live well with dementia.

About the panel speakers
David Nickel grew up on a large acreage in Coldstream and now resides in Chilliwack. During his career as Vice President of Costco Western Canada, he was known for his engaging presentations, including a Canadian-themed game show, "The Price is Right Eh!" at the Annual International Costco Conference in Seattle. After retiring, David was diagnosed with dementia and has been living with the disease for several years. Staying active is important to David and helps him to live well with dementia. He loves to play golf and visits his local gym four-to-five days per week.
Brian and Penny Stanley were beginning to look forward to the next chapter of their life together when Penny began noticing changes in Brian in 2021. Brian received a diagnosis of young-onset dementia one year later, in his mid-50s. After grieving, Brian decided to continue living life to the fullest by embarking on a lifelong dream: to wrestle competitively in Las Vegas. That dream came true in 2023, but he didn’t stop there. Brian started training and ran two 5-kilometre races. In May, Brian ran 42 kilometers (the distance of a marathon!) on an elliptical machine with Penny by his side as his support team. Together, they raised $7000 for the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's. Last month, he completed his first triathlon. Training and participating in sport have helped Brian and Penny to find resilience, strength and community on the dementia journey.
