Get to know Dan Kohl – our 2022-2023 Board President. Plus, details on the release of our Annual Report.

Our president, Dan Kohl, presenting one of our long-term volunteers an award at our 2022 AGM.

“My interest and involvement in the Alzheimer Society stems from more than 30 years of management and administration in the long term care and seniors’ sector in Saskatchewan, and seeing, first hand, the growth of Alzheimer’s disease for long term care residents and its impact on those served in care homes and in the community. I recognize that this growth is challenging for families, service providers, and policy makers, and want to try and make a difference for all who are touched by the disease.”

Dan Kohl, President – Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan Board of Directors

Dan Kohl is the incoming President for the 2022-2023 Board of Directors for the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan. Prior to being elected Board President, Dan has been serving on our Board’s Finance & Audit Committee and credits Charlene Callander, outgoing President for our Board of Directors, for her role in positioning the Society as the province's leading dementia care and research charity.

“Charlene was an excellent President and mentor. My first year as a volunteer I served on the Finance & Audit Committee and Charlene was the Chairperson. I followed in her footsteps as Chair of the Finance & Audit Committee when she became President, and now as President.  I look forward to continue working with Charlene as she is [now] the Saskatchewan representative on the Alzheimer Society of Canada’s Board.”

Dan says our organization’s policies, structure, and strategic direction are what initially motivated him to apply to the Society’s Board of Directors. As Dan became more involved with the organization, he also came better acquainted with the people who execute and operationalize the Board’s strategic plan.

"I have served on several boards and been involved in many organizations, but I must say the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan is exemplary with an excellent executive team and staff.”

Dan Kohl

When asked about personal highlights from his time on our Board of Directors, Dan said the best moments, for him, have been connecting with the people and families who are affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. When asked what he’s excited for in his role as President of the Board, Dan noted the importance of embracing the Vision and Mission of the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, along with several other priorities.

“Programs and services to help individuals and families affected by the disease, as well as research to find a breakthrough and cure, [are] as important as ever. Research is a big part of our strategic plan and we are advancing it in our strategic direction.”
