Community Changes Everything
Why the Alzheimer Society should be your first step towards a community of care and support.
Research shows that people living with dementia - particularly those who have been recently diagnosed – feel disconnected from others. That same research shows that stigma remains one of the biggest challenges for people living with dementia and their care partners.
You Are Not Alone
As part of Alzheimer's Awareness Month, we want to remind everyone who is affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia – those who are diagnosed, their caregivers, family, friends, neighbours, and health care providers – that you are not alone. At the Alzheimer Society, we create connections that people can turn to and tap into when needed.
We recognize and serve the full spectrum of dementia and those living with it. We know that living with dementia has many meanings and that the disease changes over time, so we serve many roles. At the Alzheimer Society, we understand the impact of dementia through:
Community Changes Everything
A community can take on many different forms. From where you live; to the library you visit; to the town hall meetings you attend; and, the support groups you belong to, all of these spaces and interconnections enrich our lives and give meaning to what we do. The Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan is a community that shares a common goal – to help all people live well with dementia. By connecting with us as a first step, you join a community that provides an incredible range of services, tools, and supports.
We also want to remind everyone that people living with dementia have valuable knowledge, perspectives, and experiences to share. Their lives – before and after diagnosis – remain meaningful and inspiring to friends and family. We recognize there is “strength in numbers,” and that the stronger the support network and the more inclusive the community, the better job we can all do. Simply put, community changes everything.
If you are living with dementia or know someone who may need our services, please connect with us. If you want to make a difference in your community, please consider becoming a Dementia Friend.
