“The presentation was excellent. I appreciated Dr. Kirk's effort to address every question possible and I enjoyed his stories and examples from his experience [as a doctor.]”

“Our two children will be watching the [recording of the presentation] and we feel it’s appropriate for our four teen-age grandkids to watch as well.”

“This was the best presentation I have watched via Zoom!!! Dr. Kirk is a wonderful presenter, very knowledgeable and presents with the feeling that you are sitting in the room with him.”

These are just a few of the comments we have received about our Understanding Dementia Community Presentation, featuring Dr. Andrew Kirk, that was held on January 24, 2023.

We are pleased to share the link to the presentation recording with you here.

And, we want to thank Conexus Credit Union making this event possible.

The Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan and Conexus Credit Union are excited to announce a new three-year partnership focused on increasing supports for Saskatchewan residents living with dementia.

As part of the partnership, Conexus will be investing a total of $120,000 towards the creation of the Dementia Friendly Communities Project, an initiative aimed at:

  • Helping Conexus Credit Union develop dementia friendly competencies and capacities to increase the inclusivity and accessibility for people with dementia and their care partners;
  • Offering awareness activities and resources to individuals, families, and organizations across Saskatchewan to help make our communities more dementia friendly.

The Understanding Dementia presentation featuring Dr. Kirk marked the launch of the Dementia Friendly Communities project. Conexus will be sponsoring the Alzheimer Society’s annual Understanding Dementia community presentation, which takes place during Alzheimer's Awareness Month each January.

Celina Philpot, Chief Executive Officer of Conexus Credit Union, shares her thoughts on the project and its potential impact:

“Investing in basic human needs - including health services and education, as delivered through the Dementia Friendly Communities Awareness Project - is foundational to our purpose of improving the financial well-being of our members and communities.

We look forward to working with the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan to help create a more enriching community, for those living with dementia.”

Thank you to the hundreds of people across Saskatchewan and beyond who participated in this year's Understanding Dementia community presentation and made time to increase their knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias.
